The opening ceremony of the Atlanta Olympics began with a flash back of the closing ceremony of the 1992 Olympics. Then, "spirits" rose from the corner of the stadium and formed the Olympic Rings. The official music played at the Olympics was called Summon the Heroes composed by John Williams. Many performers included Celine Don, David Foster, the Atlanta Symphonic Orchestra, the Centennial Choir, and Gladys Knight. Nearing the end of the Opening Ceremony, Muhammad Ali was the surprise torchbearer who lit the Olympic Cauldron. This was considered one of the most emotional openings in Olympic history.
